The Leeming Big Band became part of the LACB family in 2002 as a result of the wish of some band members to play swing and jazz music. Similar to the Concert Band the Big Band has grown in leaps and bounds and now plays consistently through out the year.
The Big Band plays jazz, swing, rock and roll, funk, Latin and popular music from individual sheets and also from compendium books. This band offers those interested in jazz the chance to improvise in a supportive environment if they should wish to do so; however this is completely a personal decision.
Similar to a conventional Big Band, we have a core line up of Saxophones, Trumpets, Trombones, Percussion, Keyboard, Guitar, Bass and Vocals. Big Band instrument numbers are limited so reference to the Musical Director is necessary to determine membership availability. Please get in contact if you have any queries on available positions or whether your instrument would be appropriate for the band.
The Big Band rehearses from 7pm until 8pm 3/4 Thursdays before the Concert Band during the school term, with the extra rehearsals as necessary before concerts.
